A very bad week... and a very good week!

There is no way I am going to lose weight this week. Maybe if I go on a hard core fast for the next few days I can make up for the damage I have done to my diet! I am in Portland starting my Doctorate program and getting mentored by one of my heroes and definitely one of the best in the business! He has taken us out for steak and lobster and wine and beer and everything and I have just indulged. I haven't had time to exercise much at all besides walking around the city! I am in for some sad news when i get home, but I am going to get back on it right away! I get home on Sunday and then it is back to work for my body!!! I will be thrilled if I am anywhere close to what I was when I left. If I am still under 255, I'm very happy!

I'll take it!

Well, i lost another pound this week! I think that’s pretty good, considering I weighed myself a day early and I had a Pizzone last night! Plus, I started phase 3 of the diet and so my body needs to get used to that. I’m cool with 1 pound lost and without working out this next week at all, I have a feeling I’m going to lose some muscle and my weigh in will probably be pretty good! So I’m down to 151.6 which is 18.4 pounds lost so far! I’m going to Portland, OR to start on my doctoral work tomorrow morning bright and early!

I did it!

Well I made it all the way through the "Couch to 5k" Week 3 workout today. It is amazing to me how much better I did than just 5 days ago when I struggled to get through half of it! I'll go to the gym later tonight and go through Week 3 again next week so that I can get through it 3 times before I progress on to Week 4. I'm happy and I'm motivated!

Good day yesterday!

I really pushed myself yesterday! I am so sore today, I feel like a truck ran me over! I made so much progress on my running program! I got through 3 out of 4 sections of it and halfway through the 4th one! My goal is to get through at least 2/3 or the 4th section tomorrow and then do the whole thing 3 times next week! I ran, lifted weights, did 30 more minues of cardio at the gym, and then had band practice! It felt good to push myself, but I think I'm gonna take another day off today!

Good News!

Well I am very happy today. I went and lifted weights last night and I weighed myself and I was at 252.6. So I lost 2.4 pounds this week! I weighed myself on Saturday and it was 154, so I was disappointed... but my hard work these last couple of days really paid off. I did like 10 minutes of cardio at the gym and I'm gonna take today off all the way and take on my week 3 running program tomorrow ( and kick it's butt!).

tough run

I'm a little disappointed... and i'm not sure what to do. I tried to start week 3 of my running program, but I could only get through half of it. My legs just feel dead... I pushed myself pretty hard yesterday so I think I will just lift weights today and take tomorrow off altogether. Hopefully by Wednesday I will be able to make some more progress!

Pumped up!

I'm pretty pumped up today! I went to the gym to just do cardio and I ran on the elliptical machine for 45 minutes. Now, that might not seem that big of a deal to some people, but I haven't ran for that long in about 10 years. To top that, I did 4.53 miles in that time which means I kept up 10 minute miles for 45 minutes. I couldn't believe that I could do that! I'm gonna try to start week 3 in my 5k plan later this evening when it cools down!

wow... it was tough today!!!

Well, I made it through week 2 on my 5k running program! This was the hardest day of all for sure!!! I'm not sure why, but it was sooo hard! I made it though... luckily I'm stubborn enough to push myself through the tough times! Anyway, I took the day off yesterday, but i've been sticking to my diet really well! This is by far the easiest diet I've ever been on! I'll go to the gym later and lift weights and do some more cardio on a machine. It's time for me to go meet with a colleague.

Good Workout Today!

I had a really good workout today... I did more reps than on Monday and I did cardio for longer than yesterday. I am going to do my running program tonight, hopefully... I'm pretty tired out, but if I can make myself do it, that would be good!

Well, I started my 2nd week of my 5k in two months program! This week is way harder than last week, but I did find out that I have been running 5 more minutes than I was supposed to. Since I am doing it already, I decided to keep it up! So this week I am running for a minute and a half and walking for 2 minutes until I get to 21 minutes. It was pretty rough this morning, but I did it. I went to the gym this afternoon and lifted weights, and I was gonna do 20 more minutes of cardio, but I left my mp3 player in the car and by the time I went out and got it... i just wimped out and went home. I did lose 2 more pounds this week though, bringing my grand total up to 15 so far! I kinda wish it was more, but I am lifting more so that must mean I gained some muscle and so I lost more than 2 pounds of just fat! I'm happy and I met my goal, so that's cool!

"Couch to 5k" day 2

Wow... it was actually quite a bit easier to do it last night! I didn't feel like quitting at all until the last 30 seconds of the last jog. That's a good sign... I am fueled by curiosity about this program because I have never had very much endurance, I've always been a fast runner rather than a long runner. I am curious to see if in only 6 weeks, I could possibly run 3 miles. Seriously, I have never been able to run 3 miles even in the best shape of my life... so we shall see!

"From Couch to 5K"

Thank you to the article @ http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml I started my adventure to 5k today! Basically, the first week is jogging for 1 minute followed by walking for a minute and a half. You do this for 20 minutes which amounts to 8 cycles of walking/jogging. I totally didn't think I could do week 1, but I did. After about 15 minutes I knew I was done... but I was like, "one more" and did it and then I only had one left. I could never quit with just one left, so I did it. It was quite rough, but I'm very pleased to have done it! After some breakfast I went to the gym and did some squats and 15 more minutes on the elliptical machine. Rock on for me today!!! I'm eating well and everything is cool!!!

Wow! I went to the gym last night and weighed myself for the first time since I have started this diet... and I lost 13 pounds! My goal for the MONTH is 13 pounds and I did that in a little over a week! I know the weight loss will slow down, but I am really stoked about this!!!

The Journey Begins

So I am going to lose 100 pounds this year! I figure 2-3 pounds a week is about 10 pounds a month and I put some cushion in there just in case. I am using Dr. Ian Smith's book "The Fat Smash Diet" along with regular exercise to lose the weight. Phase 1 of the diet is a detox phase... and I just finished it and am beginning phase 2 which begins to introduce lean meats, caffeine, and a couple of other good things into it. This diet really seems to be working and I will weigh myself soon, but I haven't started my workouts yet cuz I have a tattoo that is healing. As soon as it's done, though, I'm gonna start working out 5 times a week, doing weights 3 days and cardio all 5. Thanks for joining me on my journey... who knows what will happen, all I know is that it will be interesting!!!
